Fun Photo Blending Tutorial...

I was working on a layout this morning and thought I would share a piece of what I did in a tutorial. Here is the item for the layout I created...

Photo1

I love the cardboard scrap accent from Shabby Miss Jenn's Cherrywood Farm Kit... this morning I was looking at the photo I wanted to use for my layout and thought it would be fun to sort of blend it into the cardboard scrap to frame my photo. So here is how I did it in Photoshop (I use Photoshop CS2 but this could be adapted for other versions) -

First things first - open your photo and the cardboard scrap from the Cherrywood Farm Kit. Create a new transparent document by selecting FILE>NEW>and then size it around 10x10 inches with a transparent background.

Next move your photo and cardboard scrap to your new document. If you are using a horizontal photo you will need to rotate the cardboard to a horizontal position by selecting EDIT>TRANSFORM>ROTATE.

Make sure the photo layer is selected and use the slider on the layers palette to change the opacity to 55%. Press CTRL-T to re-size your photo on the cardboard - make sure you hold the shift key down to keep the proportions correct.

Screenshot1

Select your brush tool and bring up the brushes palette. Click the right arrow and choose the Dry Media Brushes - append them to your current brushes. As you scroll through the brushes - choose the brush titled Conte Pencil on a bumpy surface and set the master diameter to 75 and adjust the flow to 33%..

Screenshot2

Next add a layer mask to your photo layer (click the button with the circle inside a rectangle at the bottom of the layers palette) and with the brush selected, begin brushing on the layer mask to hide the photo edges and blend the photo with the cardstock.

About halfway through it should look like this...
Screenshot4

When you have finished brushing the edges, change the opacity of the photo layer back to 100%. Fine tune your photo blending. If you make a mistake, choose a white foreground color and use your brush to brush the photo back in where you masked it out before.

If you wish, change the opacity of your brush to 37% and brush around the edges again to blend the photo. Merge the layers together by pressing CTRL>SHIFT>E and then move it to your layout - this is how I used the finished item in my layout...

Cherrywood Farms & Fall'in Blooms

I made this LO with SMJ's newest kit Cherrywood Farms and her new trinkets Fall'in Blooms. I absolutely love everything about both of these. The colors are beautiful and perfect for Fall. I love the alpha in the kit and her button and flower qualities are absolutely amazing! When I opened the Fall'in Blooms I was blown away. I can see myself using these flowers over and over again. Credits for my LO can be found here.
Can you believe how wonderful this new kit is??? I am just in love with the Cherrywood Farm kit. Fall is my favorite season ... so I will get lots of use out of this kit.

I also used a template by Shabby Miss Jenn. You can find the templates here. These are so great to use if you don't have lots of time to scrap ... or to use as a starting point for a page.

You can also view my page HERE.

With the temps in the 60's here today ... I am in the mood for a trip to the pumpkin patch and some nice hot cider and apple doughnuts!

Here's two of my latest as one of the September guests :)
The journaling on this one reads: Ten things you love about your sissy
1. She pushes your swing 50 times
2. She can start either a VHS or a DVD for you
3. She builds forts with you
4. She picks tomatoes with you.
5. She kisses the owies okay
6. She cuddles you during the scary parts of the movie
7. She waits for you after bible class so you won’t be alone
8. She pushes your bike when you’re stuck.
9. She knows all the words to “We are the Dinosaurs”
10. She sings it at your request and 11. She loves you very much!
Papers and elements by Shabby Miss Jenn, from "Cherrywood Farm"; Flowers from Paper Brad Blooms; Paper strips from Ripped Paper Strips; Dirty Note alpha by Katie Pertiet

Journaling reads: That’s one of the things I think of when I see this picture. In only seven more months, we will be a family of five, rather than a family of four. One more precious little face to add to all of the family photographs. Three car seats to try and scrunch in the backseat. Three sets of little clothes to launder and sort... and three more years of late night feedings, diapers, and potty training.. We are so excited to add you to our little family, and we are waiting for you, little one! Papers and elements from Old Letters; Paper strips from Ripped Paper Strips both by Shabby Miss Jenn; Round alpha by Shabby Princess, “Vintage Floral”; Stamps by Katie Pertiet “Posted Spring”

Thanks for looking :) Carrie
